Custom App Store Screenshots Requirements
As part of your service launch, our Branded Apps team will create App Store screenshots for every application within your agreement. For initial launch timing purposes, it is recommended to permit usage of our team's template screenshots.
However, if you are interested in providing your own custom App Store screenshots for your initial launch or after your service is live, you must follow the requirements published by each platform consolidated below.
App Store screenshots dominate application platform search results and store-listings. They are also the largest visual element within most App Stores. In addition to showcasing imagery from within your application, screenshots also allow for incorporation of marketing copy and brand elements.
When making custom App Store screenshots for any platform:
- Read our Best Practices guide for tips on organizing your video content and writing compelling and compliant marketing copy.
- Avoid third-party trademarked logos, device images, store badges, or icons. For example, do not mention Roku, Google, or Chromecast in iOS screenshots. Instead use non-trademarked terms like "cross-platform" or "on any device."
- Do not reference exact prices or free-trial availability. Pricing and free-trial offers can vary in different countries and territories, making static screenshots inaccurate over time.
- App Store screenshots should focus on the content and features available on the device your screenshot is sized for. They are not a marketing opportunity for your streaming service in general. They are promotional artworks to encourage a viewer to download your app on a particular device. As such, your App Store screenshots must feature screenshots or mockups of the app on the relevant device.
The above kit includes compliant device frames for iOS, Android, and all TV platforms.
iOS
Apple's Help Articles: Overview | Sizes | Device Frames
- Apple requires 2 sets of screenshots, which will surface depending on the device accessing the App Store. For example, a user browsing on a tablet will see iPad screenshots.
- Apple requires screenshots to depict the application in use. Apple screenshots can not depict marketing imagery only.
- If you include devices in the screenshots, they must match the device listed for that resolution. For example, a 1290 x 2796 screenshot must show the distinctive "dynamic island" seen on 6.9" Display iPhones. A 1290 x 2796 screenshot cannot show the "notch", which does not appear on 6.9" Display iPhones.
